I’ve been recruiting people as side hustle for one company for a short period of time. But I have noticed a few things.
First of all, I searched for the medical industry. I used linkedin recruiter lite. The company whom I helped with recruiting had a few must but nothing really extraordinary though it was not easy. The first thing I noticed was the level of creativity that I put into place. What helped was that I’m a trader in my spare time and also professionaly.
So my creativity and my trading background helped me enormously. I can’t really explain the creativity part, because this to me is an instinct. Also I had to discover a lot for myself, which may have been a disproportional advantage. If you can’t follow me on this, Ray Dalio (founder of one of the most succesful hedgefunds in the world) explains this.
Sometimes I’m getting the distinct sense that recruiters need to be young and inexperienced but need at least have an higher education degree. To me this nonsense and maybe even foolish. Why? In my opinion you need to have some trading experience, whether you have traded on the side for years or for a company but the trade experience is very useful (also it teaches you to handle rejection and negotiation). Then there is the creativity part which is an advantage in and of itself, you can’t really teach this. It is about seeing opportunities. Which is hard to understand for some people.
Then you have another big and may I say crucial disadvantage for the higher educated people. Nothing negative about them, they have the ability to learn and paid enough money for it. But most academics (this includes the entire higher education spectrum) are specialist. In my opinion jobs like recruiting and account manager need poly math like people. Think about it, you need all kinds of knowledge, not just one or two.
To me, recruiting is for non-specialist. It is for, like I said: traders, people with creativity (you are going to need this because of the amount of competing companies). Maybe even more controversially, people with a lack of education, whom need to discover and thus be creative.
