The teaching model is slowly changing, in good way in my opinion. Some people would argue that it actually getting worse.
Let’s zoom out. What is education really about? Absorbing knowledge about a certain industry or subject. Getting it taught by professionals or industry experts, if your lucky. During my time online education was beginning the come up. Still, my parents had to pay thousands and thousands of euros for a decent education, me too by the way. I firmly believe that is about the knowledge you acquire instead of the title you have. Granted, for some people titles are everything, they even get horny thinking about it (sorry..). In my opinion it all about what you actually can do. Are you great in making movies, grab your phone or camera and make loads of movies and post them on the internet for free (and let the network effect take over, if you are good enough). Are you having problems with adobe première? Take a an online course for 20 usd dollar and your good to go. (you’ll need a paypal account but then again, that is as easy as creating a Facebook profile). Or maybe, just maybe look on YouTube for a video were someone explains it.
What I’m trying to say is, that the entire knowledge model is rapidly changing. You don’t necessarily need to go to the best schools in the world and settle yourself with a huge debt. You have the option of getting a great if not better education online from industry experts. For example a masters of the business administration (MBA) costs you around 200,000 us dollars. That is a lot of money, you could buy your first house with that sort of money. Now check online on those online education platforms and you’ll probably see an ex-banker giving that same course for under a 100 dollars. The difference? The school has their building(s), equipment, personnel, their societal status and maybe some bad management to finance. Online, the ex-banker needs a piece of software and his industry knowledge and he or she is good to go.
How about the personal assistance from a teacher, you can’t get that online. That is true, but you can do an online video conference. Then again, do you want a great education for under $500 dollars or a debt between $30,000 to $250,000 which will loom over your head for a certain amount of years.
How about for a certain study you need to do an entrance exam or something like it in order to even qualify for the process to the be accepted in a certain education system.
For teachers it is getting better. The media are saying that it is getting worse and worse. But let say you are an english teacher. You can download a certain software and then you create as much content about your field as possible, into the very closest detail. Instead of teacher teaching 30 kids, he or she could teach 50, 500, 5000, 500,000. He or she could teach that course anywhere in the world. Yes, a fulltime gig for 5 dollars a person, as an example. If you are good at what your teaching.
In my opinion the education side of things are getting more fair and it is merely about how good you are in what you are actually doing. Not to be rude but we see multiple big business losing and going into bankrupcy because of bad decisions, I start to question things. In the end, if you are really good at what you do, you are going to win. Education can only amplify or boost that.
Btw, don’t share this article with an english teacher, if he or she would grade me on this piece, I would fail miserably 😅.
