Are we going to legislate emotion?

Everybody has an opinion and everybody is entitled to their opinion. How on earth would you legislate this?

I’m seriously flabbergasted. I dislike hate speech but it is a form of expression and in America for example it is legally protected by the First Amendment

What is the definition of hate speech? public speech that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, sex, or sexual orientation. Hate speech is “usually thought to include communications of animosity or disparagement of an individual or a group on account of a group characteristic such as race, colour, national origin, sex, disability, religion, or sexual orientation.

Violence is never a good answer but it happens. If somebody tries to pull a trick on me (worse kinds are filmed, for social media, they call them social experiments) I will answer swiftly with direct feedback.

Look we live in a world that is far from perfect. Some of us seriously need to grow up and grow some thick skin. If we disagree on something, we disagree on something. Get a hobby and move on.

The violence part, that is the bad part. It truly is. But we are still humans and that means we are irrational and thus make bad or worse decisions. The last 10 years internet and with it the social media layer has enormously advanced. In my opinion, there isn’t more or less hate, it is just being massively filmed and the algorithms make sure we see in on our devices.

So the legislation part, I’ve got a solution. Give people serious fines. For example if you commit a hate crime (actual physical violence) and get caught a €2,500 fine and you pay the ‘recovery costs’ for the victim.

My second solution. I live in the European Union. The EU can actively ban social networks whom promote these kinds of videos. Because that is ‘real’ problem. Fines won’t do anything with a conglomerates like Facebook or Google. When proven, give the social network in question an 12 hour ban on a particular part of their service or ban the entire thing.
